GROWING up as a woman in Papua New is challenging. with so many mindsets and backgrounds that stand in the way of women to excel.
However, it is amazing and fascinating to see PNG women taking challenges head on to overcome their fears or shortcomings and excel in life. Today we journey into the story of a young Morobean woman; Enny Marason who stays focused and determined every day to get on top of her game while pursuing her career.
Enny is currently employed by Ramu Nico Management (MCC) Limited to work at Kurumbukari Mine site as the Environment Officer.
Enny said, her job is maledominated and demands commitment.
“We work on a roster of 28 days on site and 14 days off site, 7 am to 5pm Sunday to Sunday I manage to maintaingood working culture with the male coworkers by being a good team player and finding a balance, that is, when to speak and when to listen.”
“This gives my male team members and I the space to do problem-solving, brainstorm, embrace our expertise, and share what is most important in our roles as we effectively help manage specific environmental issues, carrying out specific environment activities detailed in the Sub-plans of the Operational Environment Management Plan’s (OEMP),” Enny said.
Her duties as an environmentalist on site include conducting weekly, monthly, biannual and annual environment monitoring programs and data collection as per the company’s Operational Environment Management Plan’s (OEMP).
It means environment monitoring for water, hydro-meteorological rainfall data collection, and general biological monitoring and chemical and waste management monitoring and reporting.
She also assists to analyze specimens in the site laboratory when required and input data into local data storage, chromite and other environmental awareness.
Enny said: “In my current role with Corporate HSE department, I prepare Chain of Custody for collected samples (water, sediments and fish tissues) from sites (Basamuk Refinery and Kurumbukari Mine) Environment teams and dispatch at DHL for analysis at Australia National Laboratory (ALS).
She is encouraging girls who are reading her story to be strong minded in their interest field of career and work hard to excel every day.
