A long serving employee of Ramu NiCo Management (MCC) Limited ( RNML) Joe Ariban applauds the company for its continuously providing trainings that broaden their knowledge on special equipment operations.
Mr. Ariban who is working as a boil plant operator at the acid plant division at Basamuk Refinery says there are no schools that provide courses for boiler operation.
Thus in house competency training provided by the company improves their practical knowledge on the operation of the acid plants.
RNML through the Basamuk Refinery Training division conducts competency based training on special equipment in January 2024.
The largest operator of the only Nickel and Cobalt in Papua New Guinea and the South Pacific plans ahead to improve its workers performance and standards.
One of the targets is to have developed knowledgeable and skillful workforce that can confidently deliver the target for the day.
Mr. Ariban who joined the Ramu NiCo in 2011 during its initial stage is now a senior Boiler Operator at the Acid Plant division.
He said he had never been to any institution that offered courses for operation of the boiler.
Mr Arban who hails from Wewak in East Sepik first joined the Ramu Sugar as a welder. After few months, he was shifted to boiler assistant operator. He worked there for 2o years before joining the RNML in 2011.
“It is very expensive to go schools overseas to learn about the operations of the boiler and other plants. But providing trainings at the site are very helpful for the upcoming operators at the acid plant division,’’ he said.
Mr Ariban said company must appoint one of their locals as their trainer so knowledge and skills can be passed to next lot of employees that come to work with RNML.
