Eight people on board a dingy were rescued by the Ramu NiCo ferry mv Carrie after they had been drifting for about half an hour at sea between Basamuk and Madang on Friday March 29th , the first day of Easter holiday.
The eight people including one child and two women departed from Madang on board a dingy at about 11am PNG time. The dingy broke down half an hour later because of fuel depletion and began to drift at sea.
The captain of Carrie found the dingy and people onboard at 12am and got close to the dingy immediately. The Ramu NiCo employees onboard Carrie helped the eight people boarding the ferry and tied up the dingy to Carrie by cable. The rescue process lasted approximately ten minutes.
The rescued child was slightly anxious due to the shock. The Ramu NiCo employees provided him with eggs and drinking water to help him calming down emotions.
The eight people and their dingy had been transported to Madang safely half an hour later.
The rescued people expressed gratitude to Ramu NiCo. They said if they didn’t come across Carrie and had been rescued timely, the consequences would be serious.
