Ramu NiCo in Madang has been applauded for its recent recruitment of 20 new University Graduates that began their on-the-job training in various departments in the company.

Representing the Mineral Resource Authority, Mines Liaison Officer Mr. Nicholas Waipuk commended Ramu NiCo’s effort in making such trainings available for the new graduates and said the national government provides conducive environment and laws for foreign companies to invest in PNG to provide employment and training opportunities for its citizens.

Mr Waipuk said that during the launching of the Graduate Development Scheme (GDS) and commissioning of the 20 new trainees to undergo the two-year rotational Training program on 3rd June.

“Such initiatives are appreciated and commended because it gives a symbolic sign that the national government chose and supported the right Company to invest in PNG, ”added Mr. Waipuk.

Mr. Waipuk said Ramu NiCo is such a responsible company that undertake its corporate social responsibility to give back to communities through many of its programs including GDS.

“The launching of GDS is a step in the right direction and I hope this will continue in the many years to come,” he said.

Apart from GDS, Ramu NiCo has established trades training and tertiary students’ internship training programs. It has plans to implement job-ready training program for people from project-impacted areas.

Acting Provincial Labor Officer for Madang Mr. Hubert Laboi acknowledged Ramu NiCo for taking initiatives to employ and provide trainings for Papua New Guineans especially for the people of Madang.

“As a local guy from Madang, I want to see changes and the launching of GDS is a milestone achievement and I commend Ramu NiCo for such initiatives”, Mr. Laboi said.

Vice President for Ramu NiCo Mr. Meng Deyong who officiated the GDS launching and commissioning said Ramu NiCo has recruited many young Papua New Guineans since 2014 and provided training for them.

“Many of these young people have left and are working in many organizations across PNG. We feel proud that Ramu NiCo is always contributing to the development of human resources and capacity building for PNG in line with Government’s plans and policies”, Mr Meng said.

“Ramu NiCo is a corporation registered under PNG Laws and is a symbolic of forging mutual cooperation between PNG and China. Ramu NiCo will continue to carry out its corporate social responsibilities and live up to its motto ‘One Ramu NiCo, One Community’,” he said.
