Four undergraduate female students from three universities in Papua New Guinea were privileged to join Ramu NiCo Management (MCC) Limited (RNML) in Madang Province on Saturday Nov. 2 to do their Industrial Training (IT) for three months.
Ramu NiCo Human Resource Manager David Sisioni told the students they have a purpose that is to learn as much as they could during the course of their industrial training.
He said the internship program is a great opportunity provided by Ramu NiCo for undergraduate students to learn and gain working experience.
Third year Chemistry student of University of Papua New Guinea Valentridis Narol said she is excited to do her industrial training in such a prestigious mining company like Ramu NiCo.
“This is an excellent opportunity for all students whose courses requires them to do industrial training as the company is well known in the country,” Valentridis said.
Tanya Luluwaki a third year Chemistry student at UniTech said she was thrilled when she received a call from Ramu NiCo.
“I lived in Madang but never in my life I set foot on Ramu NiCo’s premises and it is my first time to visit the Ramu NiCo’s office,”Tanya said.
Out of the batch, two will be send to Basamuk Refinery site while the other two will work at Ramu NiCo’s head office under the Public Relations Department.
Ramu NiCo’s Public Relations officer Mr. George Joe said in recent years they get students from universities to participate in the industrial training.
Mr Joe said this year the two DWU students would be the second lot of students from DWU to partake in the internship program.
Ramu NiCo, the largest nickel and cobalt mine in Papua New Guinea, has impacted the lives of local people positively.
The Chinese biggest investment in the Southern Pacific area not only mines nickel and cobalt but gives equal concentration and benefits to communities within the mine’s project areas.
Since the operation of mine in 2012, Ramu NiCo has assisted local communities in their education, health, agriculture, Small Medium Enterprises projects and has also given business opportunities to land owner companies.
