The largest Nickel and Cobalt Mine in Papua New Guinea was recognised by the Madang Provincial Government and Madang Governor Hon. Ramsey Pariwa for its Social Contribution in Madang Province for 2024. The certificate presentesd on the 22 of December 2024, signifies the outstanding contribution that the mine has been doing in the province as a corporate citizen of the province, contributing to the overall development of the province as a whole.
Being the only mining company in Madang, the Ramu Nickel and Cobalt has been an avenue to bettering the lives of people in the host province through its Social and Corporate Responsibilities in the province that will have lasting impact for generations.
Madang Governor Hon Ramsey Pariwa while presenting the certificate at Ramu NiCo Management (MCC) Limited (RNML) head office appreciates the Government and the Peoples Republic of China for setting up the mine in his province that has been a gate ways for countless development and programs that the government’s hands cannot reach.
“Ramu NiCo is a mine that stretches from the Highlands of Madang to the Coast of Madang Province covering two separate districts (Usino Bundi and Ria Coast District) making it a lifeline for the communities along the projects footprint area with assistance such as infrastructure development, education subsidy, law and order, medical emergency, medical assistance and royalty portion grants,” the Governor said.
Through the effort of Ramu NiCo, this has been recognised as a contributor to the development, employment, training and boosting local security initiative of the province that has contributed to the prosperity of Madang Province in 2024.
“I’d like to express my gratitude by saying that Ramu NiCo is indeed a Partner in Madang Province, through its Social and Corporate Responsibility, within the Memorandum of Agreement ( MoA) between the state and all the other stake holders as the Madang Provincial Government as well as outside the MoA, so thank you Ramu NiCo,” the Madang Governor said.
The project through its ongoing effort for community development has placed Madang in the Mining Map and Spotlight that contributes to the economy and human resource of Papua New Guinea.
Ramu NiCo Chairman Mr. Wang Zhou while receiving the prestigious honour said the Ramu NiCo is a company that always wants to see the host community and province strive during the lifespan of the project.
“Ramu NiCo will continue to help and support the host community and Province, and of course we will need your support and assistance to do our operation and support in the province better in the years to come.
He said the mine has bigger plans in the future; however this all counts down to the corporation between the host province, the communities and everyone for the success of the project in the future.
