Ramu NiCo KBK Mine relevant departments, Landowner, PNG National Environment Department paid a visit to The Demonstration Base of China Aid Juncao Technology and Upland Rice Project in Goroka, the capital of Eastern Highlands Province on February 28. The visit includes 15 representatives of landowners from major clans around the KBK Mine and officer Mr. David from the Papua New Guinea National Environment Department.
The Demonstration Base of China Aid Juncao Technology and Upland Rice Project was carried out under the framework of friendly cooperation between Fujian Province of China and Eastern Highland Province of PNG. After years of relentless efforts and continuous research by experts, mushroom grass ( Juncao ) cultivation and upland rice cultivation technology have now matured in Eastern Highlands Province, and related economic industries have formed a certain scale, achieving good social and economic benefits. The base not only covers agriculture and animal husbandry but also includes poultry farming demonstration, training, seed production, and promotion functions. Due to its significant achievements in promoting local economic development, poverty reduction, and environmental protection, it has won widespread recognition and gratitude from the local people. The Central Government of Papua New Guinea and the Eastern Highlands Provincial Government are also actively supporting the development of this project.
Ramu NiCo has always been upholding the concept of sustainable green development as its core, fully considering the harmonious development of the local society, economy and environment in project area, while also caring the actual needs of local landowners. Ramu NiCo actively assists in the development of agricultural and livestock farming models that can protect the natural ecological environment and promote social and economic progress. The visiting team, primarily composed of representatives of the KBK Mine, landowners and officials from the National Environmental Department, focused on visiting the cultivation of Juncao and the breeding of related livestock and poultry. They also visited the GoroKa upland rice cultivation project and the new demonstration base currently under construction.
Professor Lin and his team, who are in charge of the base kindly introduced the historical background of the Juncao and upland rice, the promotion of planting technology, and the achievements made so far to the visitors.
The representatives of KBK Mine landowners and officer Mr David from the Ministry of Environment have expressed high praise for the significant achievements in agricultural economic development in the Eastern Highlands Province. They have shown a keen interest in the economic industries such as mushroom straw cultivation and livestock and poultry farming. Additionally, they have thanked Ramu Nico for organizing this visit and expressed gratitude for the hard work and contributions of the technical experts.
The landowners’ representatives of the KBK Mine area expecting that with the support of the Papua New Guinea government and Ramu Nico, to integrate the actual conditions of the KBK Mine area and draw on the successful experiences of the agricultural economy in the Eastern Highlands Province, to promote the green and sustainable development of the KBK Mine and the enhancement of community economic benefits.
