Ramu NiCo displayed its colors in fine style in the recent PNG Extractive Industry Emergency Response Challenge staged in Port Moresby from September 30th to October 3rd, 2019.
On the opening ceremony, Chamber Executive Director Mr. Albert Mellam noted that the event was an opportune time for members of the emergency response teams in the PNG extractive industry to compete and also learn and understand the different emergencies faced by the industry and how best to respond to them.
Teams that took part in this year’s event include, Ok Tedi, Harmony Gold, Newcrest Lihir, Oil Search, Porgera, Ramu NiCo, Simberi Mine.
Mr. Mellam also highlighted that two new teams are taking part in this year’s challenge. These include K92 Mine and PNG LNG emergency response teams.
Activities in this year’s challenge comprise of road accident rescue, multi-casualty, rope rescue, confined space rescue and endurance. Both Team Basamuk and Team KBK participated in the Challenge, and Team Basamuk clinched first placing in the Fire Fighting event with remarkable display of skills which won the admiration of the audience.
Chamber congratulated Team Basamuk on wining the fire fighting challenge and encouraged all the teams to impart what they have learnt during the Challenge back at their work places.
