RAMU NiCo Management Limited has presented a new state-of-the-art suction apparatus worth more than K20,000 to Usino health centre in Usino-Bundi district in Madang.
Usino-Bundi district authority chief executive officer Steven Biko and the Usino local level government ward 32 member, Fred Maliupa was present to receive the specialised medical apparatus from the officers from the company’s community affairs department.
Ramu NiCo (MCC) also helped Samuel Moka, a medical engineer from V-Med Technology to install the new medical equipment.
Mr Moka said a suction machine is life-saving and comes handy during emergencies used to suck out bloodcloth, mucus and other wastes in the body.
Mr Biko on behalf of the local MP and Education Minister, Jimmy Uguro, was thankful and appreciative of the donation by Ramu NiCo (MCC) and said it would boost the medical services provided by the
new health centre.
He said the new health centre is located in a central location and would help the people from Bundi and those travelling the MadangRamu highway as well as those using the Ramu river.
Mr Biko said Ramu NiCo is a valuable development partner in the district and has been very supportive in many areas of development since the mining operations commenced.
In July 2020 Ramu NiCo also made a generous donation of specialised medical beds and clinical equipment to the new Usino health facility worth over K56,000.
Other equipment donated that time included pulse oxymeter to test oxygen saturation and blood pressure, baby scale and digital thermometer and stethoscopes.
Ramu NiCo community-government liaison supervisor, Kuipa Tonny challenged the local people to take ownership of the facility so it can last longer to provide medical help.
