Ramu NiCo timely assisted communities around KBK Mine affected by flood due to heavy rainfall that started from 10th to 15th of March with food and other needed vital necessities.
The company donated rice bags, clean drinking water, tin fish, cartons of biscuits to communities and peoples along Banu Breach at Usino Bundi District in Madang Province on Friday 15th of March.
Plastics and tents were also distributed to the affected victims who needed shelters.
The flooding started on 14th with water level rising during the later hours of Tuesday 13th and continued with heavy rain on 14th &15th.
The flooding affected a total of 534 people and their homes during the week with flood covering up to 5 kilometers into the floodplains along the Ramu River, with water level up to 15 -18 feet in depth that washed away everything along its path.
Ramu NiCo medical officers from its KBK mine clinic were also deployed to the disaster location to assist the communities who urgently needed medical assistance.
The communities affected were ward 31 of Usino LLG living next to Ramu River along the highway towards Ramu NiCo Management (MCC) Limited (RNML) Kurumbukari (KBK) Mine and communities along the Banu River.
Ramu NiCo assisted the affected villages including: Banu / Maure Clan , Ass Manabu / Banu /Wawe Maure & Mokomboi Clan and Yamagi Kuadei / Inland Pipeline Clan.
The flood killed most of the livestock and destroyed food gardens, homes and properties in its way.
More food and drinking water will be distributed to the communities on Saturday 16th of this month.
