A golden opportunity to visit an overseas country struck Benny Kausik, a 45 year old from East Sepik province when he was nominated to be part of a team that would participate in the 2024 China Copper Cup.

Why would he decline such opportunity that comes once in a lifetime, after-all he was serving a Chinese owned multi million Nickle and Cobalt mine and he deserves a visit to the famous and much talked about Country of China.

To Kausik, all images of China which he saw on television and magazines including movies flooded his imaginations when he received the news that he was going to be a participant.

Come August 28, Kausik joined other team members totaling 10 from both Ramu NiCo’s KBK and BSK sites and they left Madang for Port Moresby to catch the international flight to China.

As the Air Niuguni Fokker 100 gets off the Madang airport runway and circled the beautiful coral islands and the beautiful atolls of Madang town, Kausik looked out the window of his country’s flag carrier, took a deep sigh and confirmed that indeed his trip to the ancient country of China has begun.

Visiting an overseas county was only a dream for Kausik but the 2024 China Copper Cup made that dream came true for him.

The Copper Cup itself was a boost for Kausik who ranked himself a low class simple employer in the Washing Plant at the Ramu NiCo’s Basamuk refinery in Raicoast, Madang Province.

“I want to thank Ramu NiCo for creating such opportunity for a local employee like me to participate in the world standard competition to acquire unique skills and advance professionally in my working environment,” Kausik said.

Apart from participating in the China Copper Cup, Kausik was able to visit places like the Temple of Heaven, Forbidden City , Olympic Park, Great Wall and Bairong World Trade Center in Beijing, capital city of China .

He very much enjoyed the train ride from Beijing to Chifeng to attend China Copper Cup.

When Kausik returned to Papua New Guinea and to Basamuk, he told stories of the wonderful places he visited and peaceful and loving people he met. On that note, Kausik encouraged his fellow Papua New Guinean employees to be committed to their work and respect their Chinese colleagues because they were actually good and peaceful people.

Kausik gave credit to his team leader Mr Gao because if it weren’t for Mr Gao guided them to toured some parts of China, Kausik would have been lost somewhere in Guangzhou or Beijing.

“I want to say thank you to Ramu NiCo for sending us down to China and bringing us back home safely,” Kausik said.
