Beyond the green hills of Kurumbukari is the humble village of Enekwai, a small village in one of the remotest part of Papua New Guinea yet host the Chinese giant nickel mine, the Ramu NiCo Kurumbukari Mine(KBK Mine)in Madang.
It is the home of Mande Tom who is employed as a team leader in the Hydraulic sluicing section in KBK Mine.
Tom was one of the outstanding employees of Ramu NiCo who was named model worker of the year 2024 in his department and was awarded.
At the age of 30, Tom fathered three children and is a husband to his supportive wife and a respected person to his immediate and extended family members in Enekwai and other parts Bundi and Madang.
Ramu NiCo has recognized the hard work and effort that Tom progressed so far and awarded him Model Worker of the year as a person whose work output was excellent.
Tom has dedicated his life to transforming not just his own future, but that of his entire community through his work at the Ramu NiCo’s KBK Mine.
Tom operated excavators and did other trade works like welding and also managed a team as part of his role at the mining site.
He attended various required training to better his job in the seven years he has been employed and is looking forward to more training.
Tom said he was happy and delighted to be recognized as one of the model workers which he embraced as a blessing to him and his family.
“This is an achievement that I will add to my work experience and CV (Curriculum Vitae),” he said proudly.
Tom said the Ramu NiCo Management (MCC) Limited is an international company which not only focuses on hiring workers and offers work to make a living, but also trains and mentors them to be expertise and team leaders in their fields of work.
He thanked Ramu NiCo for recognizing his effort in his daily work and awarded him as a model worker of the year 2024.
