In line with our Training and Localization Plan, we strive to provide more job opportunities to local people, increase their family income and to achieve long term skill transfer through systematic training.
With the Project commencement in 2006, many local people obtain the first formal jobs in their lives. During the construction stage, we employ over 3,000 local people, more than half of which are landowners in the region.
In an effort to cultivate local talents with the regard to the needs of the operation stage, we join local vocational schools in conducting skill training for local landowners and cooperate with PNG universities in organizing graduate internship programs at the Project sites.
Seven PNG graduates were selected and dispatched to China for more than 3 month training. These engineers were newly graduated from the University of Technology in Lae.
This training program contains not only technical skills, but also Chinese language and culture learning. They spent their previous 8 weeks studying at Beijing Language and Culture University and later went to smelting works for technical skills learning.
